Hydrodynamics Modeler
At Kongsberg Digital, we are world leaders in developing maritime simulation systems. We are dedicated to creating state-of-the-art tools that empower our customers to improve operational performance and safety. We’re seeking a talented Hydrodynamics Modeler to join our Maritime Simulation organization. If you are passionate about ship dynamics, environmental modeling, and state-of-the-art simulation technologies, this position is for you.
Role Overview:
As a Hydrodynamics Modeler, you will be responsible for developing and simulating ship behavior based on customer data. You will model ship hydrodynamics, focusing on conventional ship maneuvers, propulsion systems, and interactions in varying environmental conditions. This role will allow you to work with advanced tools like MatLab/Octave, Blender, WAMIT, and our proprietary HDMT (Hydrodynamics Modeling Tool).
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop hydrodynamic models for conventional ship maneuvers such as turning, zig-zag, pull-out, and crash-stop.
- Simulate ship interactions in confined waters and in response to environmental effects such as wind, waves, and currents.
- Model ship systems including propulsion (propellers, thrusters, rudders) and power management systems.
- Work with customer-provided data to simulate complex ship behavior in real-world scenarios.
- Collaborate with teams to simulate ship interactions like overtaking, passing, tugging, and towing.
- Utilize tools such as MatLab/Octave, WAMIT, and Blender for modeling and simulation purposes.
- Effectively use internal tools such as HDMT for hydrodynamic analysis and simulation.
Required Skillset:
- Expertise in ship hydrodynamics, including resistance, maneuverability, stability, and sea-keeping.
- Knowledge of propulsion and steering systems (propellers, thrusters, rudders).
- Familiarity with liquid cargo and solid cargo handling and simulation.
- Understanding of control theory and operational practices.
- Experience with environmental simulation (wind, waves, currents, bottom, banks, etc.).
- Proficiency with MatLab/Octave, Blender, WAMIT, and ANSIS.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with customer-provided data.
- Security cleared to working on controlled goods or have the correct background to be security cleared
Nice to Have:
- Experience in modeling ship interactions like overtaking, passing, or tugging.
- Knowledge of power plants and power management systems in maritime applications.
What We Offer:
- A chance to work with cutting-edge maritime simulation technologies.
- Collaborative and innovative working environment.
- Opportunities for professional growth and development.
